(draft version) RETROFlex Louver System controls sunlight using dynamic concave or convex toothed blinds. The light can be redirected outward, toward the ceiling, or a combination of both depending on the specific system chosen.
System Performance
(draft version) RETROFlex louvers reflect light off their surfaces. The shape of the louver therefore controls the spread of light while the toothed surface directs the light. This design gives the user many options reflected in the various types of RETROFlex systems. Both types of RETROFlex reflect most of the light, letting one see outside, but not letting light or heat in. RETROFlex-D reflects some light while transmitting some light towards the ceiling. RETROFlex inverse reflects all the light toward the ceiling, providing deeper light penetration. For all of these types, the blinds provide glare protection and shading using this redirection. Because the blinds can be turned, it is also possible to shade the room, giving privacy to the user. For a more advanced lighting analysis and project specific results, we recommend using the Lightsolve program (under development).

System Description
(draft version) RETROFlex louvers come in three sizes: 25, 50, and 80mm wide (.98”, 2.0”, and 3.1”). The blinds are made of aluminum, with a white or glossy coat on the underside and a Fresnel optic coat on top. The aluminum is bent into concave or convex shapes, depending upon which product is installed. The system can be installed both vertically and within roof systems, making it simple to use in a renovation project. The system must be washed periodically, at least every 8-10 years.
